Has it really been over two months?
A lot has been happening, I swear. I thought once the kids were in school I would have more time...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I have less time then ever. I will try to fill you all in at some point but with Christmas FORTY TWO days away, I am not promising anything.
Anyway, I got to meet Sam Venable the other day! I know most of you don't know who he is, he is a writer for the Knox News Sentinel. I admit, I don't read the paper, we only get the Sunday edition because I just don't have time during the week to read, anything, but I ALWAYS READ his column. Always. He cracks me up.
Friday night was the fall carnival and basket auction that yours truly has been heading and working on for the last few months. (In full disclosure, I worked on the carnival, not at all on the basket auction. I had 2 amazing woman doing that, thank God.) Friday morning, one of the woman who chair the basket auction told me a last minute "basket" was coming in, some books that a writer for the paper wrote, named Sam Venable. They asked me if I knew him and I said, no, I don't read the paper. Then we all part ways, onto the craziness that was next, being that the carnival was that night.
About 30 minutes later a very nice lady who I had met the week before came in to add some last minute donations to the class basket that she made and she handed me a paper of the books that would be added to the last minute basket from above. I looked at the paper and I see the name Sam Venable. I look at this very nice lady and I say, "I don't know who this is but his name sounds so familiar to me." She tells me that he is her father-in-law. I have no idea why that would trigger why I knew his name, the planets must have aligned at that exact moment or something, but right as she said that, the light bulb went on...."Oh my gosh, Sam Venable! I love his column!" I told her I don't get the paper except for on Sundays but I always read his column every Sunday. I may have scared her with my excitement.
She told me her in-laws were coming to the carnival and I asked her, ok probably more like begged her, to introduce me to him. We are going to do a family reading night in May and I would love for him to come be a reader that night.
Fast forward to almost the end of the carnival. I was exhausted, to say the least. Then I see her. I jumped up. I was introduced to her in-laws and I am sure I had the goofiest grin on my face. I shook Mr. Venable's hand and Mrs. Venable's hand and got to tell them what a huge fan I was of his column. I explained briefly about family reading night, since there has been ZERO planning for that at this time and he agreed to do it!!!!! I am beyond excited!!!!!
He was so nice. Take the time to read his column, http://www.knoxnews.com/staff/sam-venable/ he is a great writer, and I promise, he will make you smile.
